Banned book: This Last Summer

Last year, while doing the banned book project, one book caught my eye when I saw it was banned, probably because I had already seen it in one of my friends' houses and in my old school and seeing it on the list of banned books shocked me. However, after reading the book completely and observing all the banned material, I still disagree with the reasons why this book was banned.

This Last Summer is based around the life of Rose, a pre-teen girl that goes to her mothers is hometown during the summer, something that her family has been doing since she was a baby. She denaids the feeling of wanting to stay for the whole summer in this boring town when she could spend that time with her friends in the city she lived in, but everything changes after seeing her friend Windy, an old friend she as being seeing every summer and slowly become best friend after playing in the beach for hours. However, after Rose goes to the old-rusty shop from the town, she ends up having a crush on the cashier and ends up getting involved in mature stuff for a 12 years old girl.

The book was banned for its mature content for an audience of 12-18 and for being in middle school libraries when the content inside the book was mature. Following the last statement, the book contains gender, identity, race, and a lot of sexuality which made a lot of parents very angry when they saw their 12-years old kids reading these sexual parts. However, some of the material shown in the book is a good example of a teenager's life, which can help the younger readers discover what could be coming in the future. If the book is in your library or somewhere accessible, I will recommend you to take a pic of the book and see what you think about it.
