How to American classes by fermin
How to American was one of the first books I read in English that was not for babies and if I am being honest, it was not that bad. Back in my young time and in the second here of living in the US, my parents bought it for me and my brother to read it soon and become more familiar with English and the writing of it. It never happens. I did not have the interest to read it, and I wanted to play this new game that was introduced to me, Roblox. So, the book collected dust for years in a small little corner with other books, and it was not until I was looking for something to do that, I saw it, a pre-historic book collecting dust in a corner with books, that I decided to read it after years.
How to American is written by Jimmy O. Aang, an Asian comedian that came to the US when he was 13 and shares his development on America though his understanding and experiences will growing up to "How to become American" which I really need to pay attention too. Jimmy came to America with his siblings and parents, sharing the feelings of moving through a new country and leaving the family behind and explaining his personal growth within the book. However, the book, has a ton of jokes and stereotypes on it that makes the book ✨Unique✨ Unique ✨ and funny for me, probably because one if the chapter is literally explaining how to get high in college (Mt. Mitchell I am not insinuating that you should smoke in college it is in the book) and how to pretend to be American while crossing the border from Mexico to US (take
notes guys).
The book itself is good, it is funny and you can finish the book in 3-4 hours on a rainy day if your parent don't let you play games or play in the rain, the book is a good option if you have nothing to do. It is like watching a comedy, except that you are reading it and not listening to it and that you need to think and imagine what is going on but trust me it is good. The book is fun, and I am starting to think I am repeating that way too many times, but the book may lose you a little times where reading is not very interesting, which may make you stop reading it because nothing really good happens in 20 pages. But yeah, I think I need to shut up.

ReplyDeleteHi Fermin! The book definitely sounds...interesting but overall like you said sounds like a fun book.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read the book but it's always interesting to see the US from the eyes of a foreigner- it exposes the great, bad, and funny things in our culture that an average American may not see. Nice post, I hope you read more in the future.
ReplyDeleteThis book seems like something I'd be interested in; and its funny how your parents picked it our for you. I should give it a try.
ReplyDeleteThis stand up comedian is exciting, I going to watch some of his shows on Netflix!
