IM IN THE THICK OF IT EVERYBODY KNOWS 💅💯

Hello and welcome back to the best blog in the entire world, the frog blog! By popular request, I am going to write about music, similar to my first blog. However, in this blog, I will take a deeper look into the literary aspect of musical lyrics in the following songs: Thick of It by KSI and Empty Out Your Pockets by Juice WRLD from his new album The Party Never Ends. Each song provides a unique aspect of the artist’s lifestyle and worldview.

Thick of It by Olajide Olatujin, commonly known as KSI, is a lyrical masterpiece. It contains rich and deep meaning, for example in the first chorus Olajide Olatujin depicts the twists and knots life has each bringing him to a new passion, “I went from living rooms straight out to sold-out tours” In this line KSI states how he was a mere youtuber to selling tour tickets for his concerts. Following this statement, he provides another key example of wordplay and second meanings by stating the following: “From the screen to the ring, to the pen, to the king, Where's my crown? That's my bling.” by further analyzing these lyrics it can be found that he was stating how he used to work for youtube, to being a boxer, to be the world's best music artist, constantly switching his passions. This song has been criticized for being cringy on social media, but by further reading and understanding the lyrics it is unveiled that this song is incredible! KSI unveiled his musical skills in this song and portrayed his successful career to create the complex and catchy that we know to this day as Thick of It!           The next song is from Juice WRLD, Empty Out Your Pockets. This song is featured in his third and final postmortem album released shortly 5 years after his tragic opioid overdose on December 6th, 2019: The Party Never Ends. The album features popular artists such as Eminem and Nicki Minaj throughout the album. I decided to focus on one song in particular, Empty Out Your Pockets. Empty Out Your Pockets depicts Juice WRLD’s pain and regret with his opioid addiction and hard life growing up in the Chicago suburbs. One example of this is seen in the third verse where he says “I bet you never felt this pain I felt when mama had no money and them bills brought hell” depicting the troubles his mom had to make ends meet and pay her bills. In addition, in the second verse, he shows his troubles with his opioid addiction by saying “Get high then my memory gone I’ve been hurting.” This line depicts how his addiction was wrecking his memory and mental stability, and he reflects on it by releasing the damage it is creating and how it is hurting him. Empty Out Your Pockets is a sad song but it is important to reflect on artist's lives and worldviews and how it affected their music and expression. One note I would like to add is that music taste is subjective and is different for each listener and there is no "correct" taste. Everyone is unique and so is their music taste!

    1. fermin if you would have read my post you would have learned that music taste is subjective! this means that everyone has a unique taste for music and by judging it as "good" or "bad" is incorrect. so just because I listen to unique music does not mean that it is bad! make sure to listen to the songs I reviewed!

  2. While I certainly understand that music taste is subjective, i can't agree with the statement of thick of it being a lyrical masterpiece. The lyrics make sense but how KSI is trying to represent them comes across as cringey. I do respect your opinions though considering how much you sing this song when we're on call :(

    1. How do you agree that music is subjective and then state that you don't think my opinion on the legacy of thick of it being a good song is wrong? Seems quite the contrary to me. And yes I love to express my joyous self on a discord call if I must!

  3. How do you feel about Ksi's implementation of prime in his music video. Do you see it as a shameless plug or something more symbolic?

    1. I think it is something more symbolic, prime represent KSI's hard work towards developing an A tier product. This goes in line with the rest of the song of how hard he works.

  4. Interesting blog, I see that you have finally chosen to do another song. I agree with your main point, everyone's taste is different. But like Madden said I gotta ask if you got hit in the head or something similar, as it is inposible for a sane person to say that the thick of it is a master piece. But again that is only my opinion, hopefully you can take my feedback and thanks me by making a review of the song they not like us.

  5. I agree that Thick of It is about KSI's path to fame. While I don't personally consider Thick of It a "lyrical masterpiece," Thick of It really isn't as bad as people make it to be. I also wonder, like Johnathon, if you see Prime's implentation in the video as something more symbolic. Good post!

  6. I am disappointed that you deleted my previous comment as I said nothing negative and was just trying to add to the conversation. This seems like targeted deleting as there are plenty of other examples of you not deleting opinions that differed with you. Please reconsider or think more before silencing someone who doesn't fully agree with your opinions or statements. You could learn something new from these people with slightly differing views.

    1. I deleted the previous comment because it was irrelevant to my blog nor was it contributing to any of the discussions. It was simply pointing out a flaw that was changed. And when in the holy macromoney of my living have I deleted another comment????!!!?? I am totally open to new ideas as long as they are not disrespectful. Stated again I simply deleted the comment because it was a small flaw in the typo of KSI's name and after I fixed it it was not contributing to my blog or this post in any way and it might confuse new readers. and also cut the act bruv you are NOT ben shapiro 😭🙏

    2. I never claimed to be someone that I am not. I am neither a Ben nor a Shapiro. There was more to my comment than just talking about the name of KSI and I didn't feel like my comment was as appreciated as other comments by other viewers of your blog. This seems targeted to people with the letter J in their name as I have heard of you deleting other people's comments with the letter J. Please stop the J hate.👍

    3. Jonatan Spencer also posted on this blog and his was ACTUALLY beneficial to the conversation your was just pointing out an old flaw that could confuse readers, this fully defies the fact that you think I hate people that start with the letter J. CUT THE ACT YOU ARE NOT BEN SHAPIRO OR CHARLIE KIRK 😭🙏. you comment was appreciated as I made the necessary changes. cut the act
